Third Place in Oils - 9/22 - 10/19/2019 Grand Prairie Arts Council 2019 Annual Juried Art Show & Sale - Grand Prairie, Texas
This painting is of my studio cat, Mau, sitting in her morning window, soaking up the sunlight. It presented a few challenges for me - the cat's reflection in the glass, the window screen and landscape beyond, the back-lit fur, and the cat's eye in full profile. But, hey, I love challenges! I want every painting to be a learning experience. When I'm first inspired with a visual image, I find myself immediately questioning - "How?" That eternal question captivates me and sparks creative problem-solving. Often, it means that I try, fail, wipe out, and move on, but that's all part of the fun for me. If painting ever becomes formulaic, I'm doomed. Anyway, this painting involved lots of frustration, but I'm so pleased with the final piece. I love the quiet mood and Mau's regal pose (her official title is Her Royal Kittiness, The Mau).
The included wood frame is a traditional style in matte black. A picture of the framed artwork is available on request.
